Everything about Lillian Ngala’s life trajectory (or just career) reminds her that she needs a lift back. But she always wondered when and how to make it “impactful and relevant” to different generations.
She knew she had cracked the code when she launched Lillian Ngala Network (LNN), a platform that brings together like-minded people from different backgrounds and experiences.
She founded LNN as “my small way of giving back to the community,” providing a platform for members to connect, learn, grow, collaborate, and leverage each other’s strengths to achieve their goals.
Ms Ngara explained that by cultivating strong relationships, the network expands the potential for personal and professional success and provides individuals with career guidance and coaching.
Lillian believes that career development, just like social development, is crucial for everyone. At a time when unemployment is on the rise in Kenya, she offers to develop individuals—pairing and mentoring or mentoring on a case-by-case basis—as a catalyst for LNN career development.
“Sometimes we just need a handheld device to show us the way and someone to talk to when we’re not in the room,” she said, explaining that she has made great use of the network she has created over the years in her career.
Lillian is a human resources professional by training and a philanthropist at heart who is passionate about impacting the lives of everyone who crosses her path.
Having worked in the human resources field for nearly two decades, rising through the ranks to become HR Director at Diamond Trust Bank, she learned that academic qualifications and classroom knowledge are sometimes not enough.
“Some doors can only be opened through the Internet,” she said.
“We are now embarking on an exciting strategic network journey to unlock our true potential and become active contributors rather than passive players in different sectors.”
The network is based on three pillars: Nurture, Transform and Impact. Through the platform, professionals can register as mentors or mentees.
Participants are paired with partners to achieve professional growth through a structured framework that “fast tracks member growth.”
It is “an academy of sorts” where participants will be trained to “reach their full potential” over six months and graduate “to be the best version of themselves”.
Once paired, they also periodically regroup to checkmate, she explained.
While LNN provides a vibrant and inclusive community dedicated to helping individuals unlock their true potential, its specific goal is to transform lives.
Lillian envisions making a lasting impact in Kenya through strategic networking, focused leadership, coaching, executive coaching and HR clinics.
Participants meet frequently to evaluate their progress and support each other along the way as they strive to improve themselves and become the best version of themselves.
“Remember, the Internet is the surest way to become the best version of yourself. Deep relationships will take you to places where education alone is not enough,” she said, urging everyone who wants to change the course of their lives Join LNN.
The conviction in her voice spoke of “a great reality born out of a great dream” as she spoke of the idea she had long considered.
She explains that based on her years of background and experience, the satisfaction she gets from watching the junior colleagues she mentors grow strengthens her belief.
“I realized that I loved working with people. I had the privilege of interacting with young people, developing and developing young people from time to time, and seeing my mentees grow. It speaks to my love for what I do.”
For her, she just gives back to society in her own small way. She said not all work challenges during this time can be solved by sitting in a classroom. She learned that seminars and workshops could not solve all work challenges.
At the heart of this network is career coaching and coaching, which draws heavily on her extensive HR industry experience.
Lillian holds a BA in Human Resource Management and an MBA in Strategic Management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Science.
She is a certified professional trainer and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Institute of Human Resources. Lillian has also served on Kenic’s Board of Directors and chaired the Human Resources Committee.
She currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Kenya Bankers Association and serves on the Financial Sector Committee of the National Industrial Training Authority.
She serves on the Board of Governors of the Society for Human Resource Management and chairs its Disciplinary Committee.
Earlier this year, Lillian was named one of the 20 best leaders in Kenya by Disruptive People and was also included in PeopleHum’s list of Africa’s 50 HR leaders in 2022.
In her workplace, she leads talent strategy and oversees all key HR agendas. But she knows that success in any industry requires grace and favor and more. This is the gap she hopes to bridge online.
She recounted that her practice opened her eyes to struggles not only in the workplace, but also in her career. Lillian says the power of networking and forging meaningful and impactful conversations and relationships can definitely propel a person toward the career path they envision.
She said LNN aims to create a network that people can rely on. “No matter what your level of expertise is, you can take advantage of networking.”
In this way, the network includes different people from entry-level to senior and even executives.
“By bringing all these people into a community or space, you give them the opportunity to network and leverage the importance of networking.
“Network will give you the space and the network to open opportunities that no paper, background, or interest can open for you.”
