Cyclists and other recreational enthusiasts will soon have a new destination near Moline’s Great River Trail.
Concept drawings show the building at 318 River Drive in Moline will be called Spokeyard, a mixed-use retail space just blocks away from Sylvan Island. Andrew Dasso, principal architect of Streamline Architects & Artisans, the team that owns the building, said the concept revolves around creating a destination where people can stop on nearby trails.
“A lot of my vision for this property is that it’s an annex to the bike trail, so it really becomes a destination on the Great River Trail,” he said.
Dassault and his wife previously lived in Des Moines before moving back to their hometown of the Quad Cities. While in the capital, they noticed breweries and shops along the bike paths, making them destinations for cyclists who wanted to stop along the way.

“We had been exploring and looking at the Quad Cities, and when this building came up for sale, I thought about the potential this place could have,” he said.
Previously, the building was home to Trachtenbarg Co., a plumbing supply company. It was used for storage before Streamline acquired it in August.
The building is less than two blocks from Sylvan Island, and Dassault thought it would be the perfect location for an “adaptive reuse” concept that would “revitalize an area with all these industrial buildings and integrate new ideas and concepts to create More community.”
“We work within the walls of space and buildings to create truly intimate environments,” he said. “That’s what we hope for Spokeyard.”
The concept for the building is a “cycling-centric development” where cyclists can take a break from cycling routes. The concept is still in its early stages and Dasso is actively seeking tenants willing to participate in the project.
Construction will begin once the business is committed to the idea and the team knows what to design and build, he said. The space is suitable for a variety of retail facilities such as a bike shop, gym, salon and the aforementioned brewpub and coffee shop.
If the team can find the right tenant in the coming months, construction could begin as soon as this spring, Dassault said. Information about leasing space and any upcoming updates can be found online at spokeyard.com.
