This article presents ideas on how chief human resources officers (CHROs) can guide their organizations and employees through widespread change and disruption in business and work environments. These recommendations focus on three key areas: Hybrid work, artificial intelligence (AI) and leadership development. In helping organizations harness the benefits of artificial intelligence, There are five possible actions the CHRO can take: 1) Develop and implement an artificial intelligence literacy plan for all employees, 2) Support the creation and execution of new roles that bring AI expertise to the organization, 3) Conduct model experiments with artificial intelligence through pilots and use cases in human capital management functions such as recruitment, learning and development, and career planning, 4) Advocate for governance policies to mitigate the risks of AI use across the organization, and 5) Expand the opportunities created by AI by implementing reskilling strategies for high-risk job roles being replaced by AI. Regarding advocating for governance policies that establish guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence within organizations, I’m forwarding another paper from The Conference Board titled “Generating Artificial Intelligence: Questions CHROs Should Ask,” which includes 35 questions CHROs can help their organizations answer.
