A new beginning symbolizes a new beginning for the legendary hotel, and with spring training set to begin this month, the timing couldn’t be more perfect. This transition period provides Funk with an opportunity to evaluate the company’s strengths, identify areas for improvement and implement strategic initiatives to propel Legends to greater heights. By leveraging his expertise in the hospitality industry, Funk aims to enhance the overall fan experience, delivering innovative and personalized services that leave a lasting impression on stadium and arena visitors.
“For 15 years, I have loved coming to work at Legends every day and working alongside the most talented people in the industry,” said Smith, who will become a senior consultant at Legends. Smith was the Legends’ first employee in hospitality when the company was comprised of the owners of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees. Today, hospitality is just one of Legends’ six business units, but remains an important one, managing venue concessions, premium clubs and suites, and private event catering, among others.
With Funk at the helm, Legends Hospitality is poised to embark on a journey of growth and success. His vision for the company is aligned with the changing needs of the hospitality industry, where customer experience is paramount. Funk’s extensive network and industry knowledge position him well to forge strategic partnerships that will further enhance Legends’ offerings and expand its reach. Kirta Carroll will continue as Legends president of global marketing and will continue to report to the restaurant executive.

Funk joins Legends this month after spending two years leading the healthcare business at Compass Group, the foodservice industry’s largest business unit. He has extensive experience in sports-related hotel operations, including eight years in various roles at Levy Restaurants, a sister company of Compass that works with dozens of sports organizations including the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Rockets . Funk also spent eight years with Aramark, including serving as director of operations and general manager of Delaware North.
