By proposing solutions to industry problems and collaborating with corporate partners, students in the UNT Frisco MBA class gain valuable experience that will help them excel in their future careers.
The program is initially designed to allow recent graduates to improve their competitiveness in the job search process, but it is also beneficial for individuals who already have corporate experience and wish to advance in their careers.
“This is a management degree, but the main projects are working directly with companies, so [students] It will then be tested and truly prepared to enter the labor market. ” said Julie Jernigan, Director of Corporate Outreach and Student Recruitment.
Corporate partners brought real problems faced by their companies, and students proposed solutions. Direct industry interaction makes the 11-month program unique.
“They are often cutting-edge challenges related to new technologies, new advancements, or new obstacles that these organizations haven’t dealt with before, so it’s very exciting for both the companies and the students,” Jernigan said.
Last year, one company replaced nine warehouses based on suggestions from five students, Jernigan said.
“When you see a company listening [the students’] Demonstrate and then implement those ideas,” Jernigan said.
Students in this program will study the following courses:
- Managing innovation and creativity
- Introduction to the business decision-making process
- Marketing management
- administrative strategy
- Industry visit
“You often can’t find these topics in textbooks because these are challenges that companies themselves can’t solve,” Jernigan said.
Graduates of the program earn starting salaries of $70,000 and quickly become leaders in their fields.
“Our alumni have advanced and are now managing their own teams and are able to make recruiting decisions after just a few years,” Jernigan said.
Graduates of the program will also have the ability to work effectively in diverse teams, meet tight deadlines, and communicate research results to an audience.
MBA graduate Chloe Trent said her experience at UNT prepared her for her job as a technology strategist at the advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi.
“This group of people taught me how to be a strategist, how to run a business and how to work as a team for clients,” Trent said.
Nahal Ziaie graduated from the program in 2018 and was one of the first MBA students.
“The fact that this was a one-year, full-time program was a huge selling point for me as I was eager to start my career after college,” Ziy said. “This program helped prepare me for my career.”
Noah Smith, a recent graduate of the program, said he has applied what he learned in the MBA program to his engineering career.
“I love the small class sizes and the collective experience of camaraderie, which really lowers stress levels because we’re all in this together,” Smith said. “While I’m an engineer now, I plan to later use my degree in engineering management. MBA degree and use what I learned at UNT to better lead teams and execute projects.”
