Aftermarket University, through Northwood University, announces that registration is open for many upcoming professional development opportunities.

Litzinger noted that Northwood University’s aftermarket courses can help companies introduce new employees to the motor vehicle aftermarket industry; facilitate their tactical leadership development; and assist them in transitioning from tactical leadership to strategic visionary leadership.

The following Aftermarket University courses are scheduled throughout the summer:
Leadership 2.0/Section 2
The Leadership 2.0 experience includes a combination of industry research and market analysis, as well as lively discussion and debate on the challenges facing the light vehicle and heavy vehicle aftermarket; Competitive strategy; Interpersonal communication skills; Contract negotiation; Conflict resolution; Organizational culture; Cybersecurity Best practices; insights into supply chain solutions; and other challenging and evolving industry topics and trends.
This course is held from March 10th to 14th. The registration deadline is February 23, and participants must have previously completed Leadership 2.0 Session 1.
Consumer behavior; Sales and sales management; Leadership culture; After-sales field sales management
The four courses are scheduled to be held from March 18 to May 12.
The After Sales Field Sales Management course examines the work activities of field sales managers. Subjects include sales techniques, expense management, time management, merchandising/advertising planning, sales report writing/sales forecast planning, trade show management and human resources skills.
The Leadership Culture course includes an analysis of organizational factors that influence leadership and management skills. Key aspects include formal and informal groups, norms, sanctions, organizational change, morale, the functioning of committees and teams, the role of unilateral decision-making, teamwork, delegation, and ethical philosophy. It also includes a self-assessment of leadership and management strengths and areas for development.
The Sales and Sales Management course will develop students’ abilities in professional sales theories and methods, presentation skills and sales management techniques. This course focuses on developing and maintaining relationships with customers and managing the process of finding, converting, and retaining customers while achieving the organization’s goals. Includes communication skills, career planning, sales strategies and tactics, and sales duties and responsibilities.
The Consumer Behavior course will explore consumer behavior theory, including the introduction of behavioral models to the study of consumer psychology. This includes applying consumer behavior principles to customer satisfaction, market planning, and merchandise mix decisions. Ethics, diversity and international issues are also explored.
The registration deadline for the four courses mentioned above is March 4th.
After-sales 101
Aftermarket 101 is an introduction to the motor vehicle aftermarket.
Students taking this course will gain an in-depth understanding of the breadth, depth and scope of the automotive aftermarket, including retail channels, e-commerce and traditional distribution, sales development skills and opportunities, current and future industry trends, a brief introduction to the heavy-duty market, and Opportunities and challenges facing our service dealers.
This two-day course will be held on May 20-21. The deadline to register for this course is May 6th.
Heavy 101
Through Heavy Duty 101, students will gain an in-depth understanding of the scope of the HD/CV motor vehicle aftermarket. Students will be able to map and illustrate the pipelines of retail, e-commerce, and traditional distribution; differentiate and explain how major industry players contribute to the industry; discuss key initiatives and market strategies within the heavy-duty market; examine the challenges faced by professional services dealers and opportunities; demonstrate an understanding of the benefits of developing a professional sales network; and learn to stand out from the competition and dominate the market.
This is a two-day course scheduled for May 22-23. The deadline for registration is May 8.
Infusion 2024
INFUSION is an executive development series designed to help leaders transform into strategic visionaries by developing strategies so that they can become more effective and proficient in leading their organizations. Participants will discuss how to demonstrate knowledge in creating innovative strategies to achieve better results for their organizations.
This course is designed to analyze different approaches to key topics; design clear outcomes; measure better outcomes; develop breakthrough strategic foresight skills; create a vibrant organizational culture; measure the detrimental effects of organizational isolation; map state-of-the-art networks security strategies; compare best practices in supply chain management; express knowledge on mergers and acquisitions; evaluate their corporate strategies; and differentiate their competitive advantages from competitors.
This is a five-day course held from June 2nd to 6th. The registration deadline is May 10th.
After-sales information standards
This program was developed for aftermarket catalog managers and product information professionals who want to improve their knowledge and management of industry data standards (ACES and PIES). Learners will become familiar with car care libraries and how to use them effectively in their daily work.
To take this course, students must have taken Introduction to ACES and PIES 101.
This course lasts for two days, and the registration deadline is June 4th.
Responsible leadership 2.0
This five-day course is the cornerstone of the industry’s efforts to develop a new generation of tactical leaders who will help drive the HD/CV aftermarket to new heights of excellence in leadership and performance.
HD/CV Leadership 2.0 is an intense and intellectually stimulating leadership development program designed for heavy-duty motor vehicle aftermarket professionals. The course will be driven by top heavy industry leaders, coveted thought leaders and Northwood University faculty and staff. This unique collaboration allows for an intensive course specifically targeted at elevating tactical leaders who are motivated to purposefully achieve key organizational outcomes and goals at all levels of the HD/CV motor vehicle aftermarket.
Heavy Leadership 2.0 is scheduled for July 14-18. The deadline for registration is June 28.
Leadership 2.0/Course 1
Leadership 2.0 consists of two five-day courses. The first conference will be held at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan.
The course includes intense discussion and learning related to the challenges and opportunities facing the automotive and heavy-duty aftermarket.
The Leadership 2.0 experience includes a combination of industry research and market analysis, lively discussion and debate on the challenges facing the light vehicle and heavy vehicle aftermarket, competitive strategy, interpersonal communication skills, contract negotiation, conflict resolution, organizational culture, cybersecurity best practices practices, insights into supply chain solutions, and other challenging and evolving industry topics and trends.
Session 1 is scheduled for August 11-15. The second conference will be held from March 11 to 16, 2025, at a location yet to be determined.
The deadline for registration for the first session is July 26.
James O’Dell, assistant director of Aftermarket Education at Northwood University, explained that Aftermarket University has five pillars: Introduction to the Motor Vehicle Aftermarket; Data; Tactical Leadership Development; Executive Development; and Organizational Development.
“The courses offered this year align with these pillars to best serve the automotive aftermarket industry,” O’Dell added.
