Raipur: The Chhattisgarh High Court has reserved its verdict on the controversial joint sub-inspector/platoon commander recruitment examination to be conducted in 2021. The case sparked debate about alleged irregularities in the recruitment process. Recruitment exam released on September 17, 2021, Raipur Police Commissioner appoints to fill 975 posts including Subedar, Sub-Inspector, Platoon Commander etc. It is noteworthy that 247 posts are earmarked for Platoon Commander and Section 4 of the advertisement clearly states that female candidates are not eligible for this particular post. However, discrepancies emerged in the preparation of main exam lists and compliance with reservation rules, prompting dissatisfaction and subsequent legal action. Although 975 vacancies were announced, the eligibility criteria for the main examination was determined by multiplying the number of candidates for all posts by 20. This approach has been challenged by senior lawyers Kishor Bhaduri, Abhishek Sinha and Mateen Siddiqui, calling it arbitrary and illegal. Additionally, women candidates holding Chhattisgarh domicile certificate are entitled to 30% reservation. However, 6,013 female candidates were included in the main examination despite only 4,368 female candidates being eligible as per regulations, further raising concerns about fairness and transparency. Rule 6(10)(4) of the Recruitment Rules 2021 provides for preparation of a comprehensive merit list for certain posts based on the main examination. However, differences emerged during the selection process, particularly in the physical fitness test. The controversy deepened amid allegations that the names of candidates who had not even applied for certain posts were included in the list for the physical fitness test. This oversight resulted in qualified candidates being overlooked, raising questions about the integrity of the selection process. Justice Narendra Kumar Vyas heard the arguments of all parties involved and reserved the final decision on the matter. The outcome of the case could have significant implications for the state’s future recruiting process.
