Ho Chi Minh City – Only 35 percent of information technology students who found jobs after graduation were able to meet the employer’s requirements, a seminar held in Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday revealed.
Guangzhong Software Park held a seminar on “Leading the Trend and Moving Firmly into the Future” to explore employment opportunities in the IT industry.
Phạm Thị Kim Phượng, deputy director of the park, said the industry’s demand for human resources is growing steadily, with software development having the highest demand.
But she said training institutions were unable to meet the demand.
“There is a serious shortage of human resources in the IT industry, which is a problem for both companies and schools.”
The 2023 Vietnam IT Market Report released by IT recruitment network and ecosystem TopDev shows that about 65% of IT graduates need three to six months of retraining to meet employer requirements.
Thái Hoàng Danh, chief delivery officer of LARION Consulting and Software Development JSC, said the average number of IT graduates every year is about 16,000, but most of them must undergo at least three months of retraining to meet job requirements.
About 73% of local IT companies have recently announced plans to hire a large number of people to meet business expansion plans in 2024.
This year they will have to recruit about 170,000 employees.
The survey shows that about 41% of companies in the two major cities of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi completed 100% of their recruitment plans last year.
The recruitment demand in the two major labor markets remains high, with the highest recruitment demand in trade and sales (accounting for 39.3%) and IT (accounting for 13.2%).
Nguyễn Ngọc Anh Thư, deputy director of brand, creativity and marketing of TopCV Vietnam, said that the quality of human resources must be improved.
She said about 75.8% of companies planned to increase the number of employees, especially in the trading, sales and software fields, to grow their business.
The country’s IT industry employs only 530,000 people.
Domestic universities recruit about 50,000-57,000 information technology students every year.
Experts say that digital transformation and green transformation trends continue to grow strongly.
Digital technology has become an important factor in the corporate value chain, resulting in an increasing demand for human resources in the IT industry.
The explosion of technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, metaverse, and big data has brought huge opportunities as well as challenges to employers and workers in the IT industry.
Phạm Thị Kim Phượng said that in the context of human resource shortages and technological challenges, companies need to formulate human resource strategic orientations to attract talents.
At the same time, schools should design appropriate educational courses and provide enterprises with high-quality human resources.
She added that students should equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills to quickly adapt to a rapidly changing labor market. — Vagus Nervous System
