On April 4, Moon Valley Garden Club will host Samantha Dorsey, president of the McEvoy Ranch in Petaluma, to share the history and legacy of olive growing. The club meets in the Burlingame Hall of First Church, 252 West Spain Street, Sonoma. The meet-and-greet will be at 6:30 p.m., with demonstrations at 7 p.m., followed by a plant raffle and refreshments. Attendance is free for members, but guests may donate $5 toward the $25 annual membership fee.
Dorsey will delve into the secrets behind making quality olive products and show how to build a self-sufficient and balanced ecosystem. Dorsey’s career at McEvoy Ranch began more than 20 years ago and has been focused on permaculture. She leads olive grove management workshops and shares her expertise with growers in every state. Dorsey also serves on the executive committee of the California Olive Oil Council and serves on the board of directors of the Petaluma Gap Grapegrowers Alliance.
Sonoma Valley Regional Library Lawyers in Library Program
The Sonoma Valley Regional Library is launching a “Library Lawyer” program to provide locals with the opportunity to get their legal questions answered at no cost. The event will be held April 3 at the Library, 755 W Napa St, Sonoma, from 5 to 7 p.m. The collaboration involves the Sonoma County Bar Association, the Sonoma County Law Library and local libraries.
Volunteer attorneys will provide legal information during the 20-minute consultation, but they do not provide specific legal advice and should not be considered private attorneys. Participants must sign a waiver stating that the consultation does not create an attorney-client relationship. Register in person at 4:30 p.m. Space is limited. Sonoma Homebrewers April Conference
The April 11 meeting of Sonoma Home Winemakers will feature viticulturist Allison Bettis of Silver Oak & Twomey. Bettis has experience working at wineries in France, Napa and Sonoma and is a licensed and certified agricultural pest control consultant and qualified pesticide applicator. Bettis will describe the role of the viticulturist and how it relates to vineyard management decisions.
She will share the tools and techniques used in the vineyard, how this translates to a more cost-effective scale for small vineyards, and how to monitor the risk of vine mold and moisture stress. The Sonoma Homebrewers meet on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Sonoma Community Center, 276 East Napa Street, Room 110.

The Inn at Sonoma will invite community members to an Easter brunch on March 31 at Wit & Wisdom and Benicia’s Kitchen, two restaurants on the resort.
