An architecture practice founded in Birmingham more than half a century ago is now owned by its employees.
Associated Architects has become an employee-owned trust and is strengthening its leadership team with a promotion to director level.
The new structure is a form of trust that operates for the benefit of the company or its employees rather than outside shareholders.
The company, which is based in Mailbox, said the move would secure the clinic’s long-term future, maintain its independent structure and train the next generation of staff.
Founded in 1968, Associated Architects has offices in Leeds and Oxford and is expected to continue to grow, with turnover expected to reach £6m in 2024/25 and staff numbers rising to over 65.

Following the move to a trust model, current directors – Warren Jukes, James Hall, Richard Perry and Steve Townsend – will remain in place and day-to-day operations will not change.
Additionally, Alex Paul has been promoted to director of the Birmingham studio, Jonathan Dawson-Bowman has been promoted to associate director, and Craig Reed He became Director of Leeds and Tom Cotton became Deputy Director of Oxford.

The firm’s previous projects include the conversion of the 10 Brindleyplace office tower in Birmingham, College Station and the redevelopment of Alexander Stadium.
