What happened
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s leading IT services company, has recruited over 10,000 fresh graduates from top engineering colleges.
The sharp increase in hiring comes as the company prepares for expected demand growth in the next fiscal year.
Last month, TCS launched new recruitment through the National Qualification Test (NQT), a platform developed by TCS iON to assess the cognitive abilities and technical expertise of candidates.
Details of TCS recruitment drive
The last date for application for the TCS recruitment drive is March 10 and the exam is scheduled to be conducted on March 26.
The first phase of enrollment is for “key colleges and universities”, and the second phase of enrollment is for other colleges and universities.
TCS did not comment on its recruitment exercise, citing the silence period, although placement officers compared the NQT and campus placement processes.
TCS offers three salary categories to fresh employees
TCS is recruiting fresh graduates in three categories: Ninja, Digital and Prime.
The Ninja category offers packages of Rs 3.36 lakh per annum for various roles.
The funding amounts for Digital and Prime are Rs 7 lakh and Rs 9-11.5 lakh respectively.
It has been confirmed that new hires selected for the Digital and Prime profiles will be placed in development roles, while new hires in the Ninja profile will be assigned support roles.
Universities express optimism about recruitment drive
V Samuel Rajkumar, Director, Career Development Center, Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), expressed optimism that students from all colleges will get employment opportunities at TCS.
He revealed that VIT students received 963 admission letters, of which 103 were in the Prime category.
S Vaidhyasubramaniam, vice-chancellor of SASTRA University, reported that their students received over 2,000 offers from different companies.
Venkata Narasimhadevara of SRM Institute of Science and Technology highlighted TCS recruitment as the big news of the season.
TCS’s three-tier packaging approach gains popularity
TCS’s three-tier salary package is different from traditional entry-level positions and is designed to attract better talent.
Ashok Kumar Mittal, Chancellor of Lovely Professional University, hailed this as a very welcome and positive move.
Placement officials also mentioned that TCS is using its iON centers across India to conduct exams in place of college campuses, marking another innovative step in the company’s recruitment process.
