A new permit has been issued for a suburban development at 19780 Almaden Road in San Jose in Santa Clara County. The proposal would create 49 new single-family homes on the edge of the expanding city. Terracommercial Real Estate is the project sponsor.
The development will create 49 single-family homes on more than 7 acres, averaging 6.9 homes per acre. Ten homes will be deed-restricted as affordable housing. This application uses SB 330 and Builder’s Remedy to circumvent local zoning restrictions and streamline the approval process.
Anderson Architects was responsible for the design, with Wood Rogers serving as planners and engineers. The proposal’s elevation depicts a two-storey home with contemporary architectural touches such as a pitched butterfly roof and floor-to-ceiling windows. The exterior will be covered with a smooth stucco finish and wooden cladding.
The project will occupy 7.1 acres, leaving approximately 11.5 acres of undeveloped land between the residences and the Alamitos River as a flood protection zone. The development would bring a new edge to suburban expansion on San Jose’s southern edge. Residents won’t have too close a walk, with the nearest shopping center just a 15-minute walk away. The site is close to the historic mining town of Almaden in the mountains.
Estimated costs and timelines have not yet been determined.
