RIO GRANDE COUNTY — Rio Grande County has a new human resources director. Deb Hite will take over in the fall of 2023 and has since focused on streamlining the human resources department through innovation and enhanced concepts.
Hight decided to move to Colorado from suburban Boston, Massachusetts in July 2023 and joined Rio Grande County in September 2023 as Human Resources Director/Specialist.
The main motivation behind the move was to be closer to her daughter, who has lived in the area for more than five years. Haidt has a background in human resources and has gained a wealth of experience throughout her career. She has worked with government organizations in Nevada, Massachusetts, and Santa Clara County, California.
At the age of 21, Hite began her career as a paid reserve constable in Stanislaus County, California, and was later promoted to the Department of Corrections, where she specialized in maximum security prisons. As a police officer, she managed the prison investigation team and the security team. Eventually, while working in Nevada, she was promoted to Director of Training for Northeastern Nevada.
Additionally, Hite was personally involved in overseeing the construction and transition of a new supermax prison in northeastern Nevada. There she recruited, hired and developed training programs for recruits and badge personnel. The American Correctional Association recognized her efforts in managing security for the multimillion-dollar convention during her tenure.
In Santa Clara County, California, she served as a training manager for the Department of Corrections. She develops and manages employee development programs for new hires, badged personnel, and managers. She served as a member of the California Department of Standards and Training’s Bay Area Training Alliance, which works with local correctional systems to improve the professional capabilities of local correctional officers in California.
When she moved to Massachusetts, she simultaneously expanded her family. Not only did this mean moving to a new location, it also meant adding a new member to her family. Nonetheless, she wholeheartedly accepted the opportunity, fully committed to providing a nurturing environment for her loved ones in their new home in Massachusetts. She then served as assistant superintendent of area school districts. During this time, she was responsible for assisting with human resources and finance responsibilities. She also serves as chairperson of the local bargaining unit.
So, after earning her degree, she continued her studies at the University of Massachusetts, majoring in Human Resource Management and Diversity Recruitment.
Accustomed to the hustle and bustle of city life, she found herself constantly surprised by the breathtaking splendor of the area. She enjoys biking, traveling, and exploring the outdoors. She enjoys encaustic painting, mixed media painting, and photography.
Hite is eager to use her knowledge of labor law, diversity and inclusion to adapt to the changing work environment and continue to foster a positive work culture for Rio Grande employees. Her goal is to provide guidance for employee growth and success.
