As part of its periodic review process, Duke University Human Resources has updated the online Human Resources Policy Manual with changes to the following policies and procedures:
- Harassment and Discrimination Policy: Policy references on the Human Resources website now point directly to the Office of Institutional Equity website and its source policy.
- nepotism policy: Updated the policy to clarify the approval process for requesting an exemption from the policy and what types of relationships the policy covers. The policy now also describes the management plan required for any approved exemption.
- Eligibility for Benefit Policies: Added statement to clarify that all employees, regardless of work schedule, are eligible to contribute to the Duke University Faculty and Staff Retirement Plan.
- Arrest or Conviction Policy: Added language to indicate that a summons for arrest and that the arrest requires notification to a supervisor within seven calendar days.
- Recruitment and employment policies: Update the language based on the current name of the position/title and department.
- Reference and Background Check Policy: Updated language to include education verification where needed.
- working hours policy: For consistency, language has been added requiring hourly employees to work in North Carolina and the start and end of the “working day” have been updated.
- Health System Salary Structure and Process Policies: Updated wording to reflect the current practice of administering salary increases based on market competitiveness rather than performance.
Duke Human Resources is also reviewing all policies and will include a “last review” date when policies are confirmed or updated. Currently, the following policies have been confirmed and have not changed:
