U.S. Customs and Border Protection appears to be steadily increasing hiring incentives to overcome the recruiting challenges faced by the Department of Homeland Security as it seeks more border agents.
CPB has launched a campaign to attract more Border Patrol agent applications, buying ads on social media and posting job listings, offering a variety of incentives based on need, totaling up to $30,000, with annual salaries ranging from $61,965 to $99,942. .

In January, the CPB issued a press release offering bonuses of at least $20,000, with the potential for bonuses of up to $30,000 for newly assigned U.S. Border Patrol agents hired on or after January 8.
Recruits must complete the academy and serve at least three years, CPB said.
Bonuses of up to $10,000 are available to agents accepting remote work, including in Sierra Blanca, Presidio, Sanderson, Comstock, Freer or Hebbronville, Texas. Other locations include Lordsburg, New Mexico, and Ajo, Arizona.
Agents are tasked with detecting and questioning persons suspected of violating immigration and customs regulations. The CPB wants agents to inspect farms and buildings, conduct city patrols and conduct traffic checks.
In January, at least 14 House Democrats voted for a non-binding resolution condemning the Biden administration’s “open borders policy” and blaming the president for a “national security and public safety crisis.”
