In Mexico City’s Condesa neighborhood, a block lined with neutral and subdued buildings is interrupted by the stainless steel facade of the culinary venue Casa Paladar. But even more striking is what’s inside: soft textures and a love of living things belie an industrial introduction. The stunning fusion of modernity and nature was conceived by Ignacio Urquiza Arquitectos (IUA) and Ana Paula de Alba (APDA) to form an immersive place on the ground floor of a 1960s building.
After several attempts at restoration, the 163-square-foot outpost was so different from its original character that the pair chose to reconfigure the entrance in a new, contemporary palette. In an effort to establish Casa Paladar as a trendy destination for famous chefs, pop-up shops and other gastronomic events, the space was designed to stand apart from its surroundings.
