The Berkeley Planning Commission plans to review the design of a six-story apartment building at 2136 San Pablo Ave. in southwest Berkeley, Alameda County. The project will bring more than a hundred homes to the single-story commercial building. Allrise Capital is listed as the owner and applicant.
Trachtenberg Architects is responsible for the design. The project will have a streamlined facade overlooking San Pablo Avenue. The rear part of the structure will provide additional decoration and connections for residents viewing George Florence Park. Residential features such as gable roofs and ground level porches will help enhance the architectural feel of the home.
The 75-foot-tall building has 93,280 square feet, with 1,250 square feet available for three live/work units. The project will create 12 units of housing, 10 of which will be affordable to very low-income families. Unit sizes vary, including three live/work units, five loft units, 41 studios, 71 one-bedroom units and five two-bedroom units. Parking spaces can accommodate 50 cars and 72 bicycles. Residents have access to 6,600 square feet of open space on a central courtyard and terrace.
The Design Review Committee meeting is scheduled to begin tonight, February 15, at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at the North Berkeley Senior Center, 1901 Hurst Avenue. Public comments are limited to pre-submitted written comments or live speakers. For more information, see the meeting agenda here.
The committee will also review new renderings of Blake Street in 2018. External elements have changed since we reported in January, but the proposal will still bring 12 co-living apartments.
