Five years ago, Ayden, now a Sales Training Manager, joined our local sales team as an Account Executive (AE). To celebrate his latest Yelpiversary, he’s sharing his #FiveStarCareer story and his journey from being a brand new AE to now helping our newest AEs lay the foundation for a successful sales career.
Tell us about your journey on Yelp
In August 2018, I started working as an Account Executive (AE) on Yelp’s local sales team in San Francisco. Little did I know that this would be the beginning of the next chapter of my life. At first, I struggled as an expatriate AE, but the support from my leadership was unwavering. I threw myself into the role, soaked up everything I could and became a high-volume sales representative.
As I started to grow, I had the opportunity to move to another office, which I saw as a sign of exploring myself and my potential more in a new environment. So, I packed my bags and flew to Phoenix, Arizona in September 2019. My dog Bailey and I rented a small apartment in the city center, which is just to the right from there! I was able to focus on my career and build a strong foundation to continue growing from. Four years later, I’m now a Sales Training Manager, pushing my limits to new heights!
What’s something that’s surprised you about working at Yelp?
I was amazed to see how much support we received to reach our full potential.
How has working in sales helped you grow personally?
I learned how to control the controllable, how to self-reflect and use this insight to further grow and develop.
What does a typical day look like for your character?
As the Sales Training Manager, I mentor new employees on their first day and build a solid foundation for a fruitful sales career. I help them become familiar with our strategies so they can answer the call with confidence and conviction. I also help them understand and navigate all the resources we have for their career development.
How does Yelp help you maintain a healthy work-life balance?
